ABOUT JAN COOK

In 2012, after leaving a long-standing and successful career as a manager in further education in County Durham, Jan took the opportunity to re-train and qualify as an estate planner. She successfully completed a programme of accreditation and examinations, and she is supported by a team of STEP qualified practitioners at Countrywide Tax and Trust Corporation Ltd enabling her to advise clients on the best possible planning to satisfy their individual needs. This is generally through putting in place Wills, Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney and for business clients can also include plans to ensure Business Protection. In 2023, in order to cope with increasing demand and organic growth of the business Jan has welcomed her younger son, Nick, to join her and together they plan to take the business from strength to strength.

Through researching and organising her own estate planning Jan became acutely aware as to just how many people do not have appropriate plans in place, even in the form of a simple Will, and she is passionate about raising awareness of the importance of full and effective estate planning. To this end she regularly speaks to community groups and offers talks to employers who are mindful of corporate responsibility and keen to provide their staff with a programme of support towards health and well-being.

Jan also works collaboratively with a number of other professional service sector providers, eg Accountants, Estate Agents, Mortgage Brokers, Financial Advisers, assisting them in enhancing the range of services they are able to offer their own clients through adding Legal Services to their brand. These have particular emphasis on estate planning services ie Wills, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney and for clients of Accountancy practices in particular, Business Protection.
